The PYP section of RAK Academy is a happy and vibrant place where students learn in a safe and secure environment. The PYP primary school is a community of learning where staff students and parents are constantly being challenged in their practices and attitudes. The school truly is internationally minded in both its outlook and the student body.
The Primary School follows the Primary Years Programme (PYP), which is part of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). This has been integrated into the school for the past five years and has grown in strength year on year! The PYP provides our students with a stimulating and challenging environment to work in. The curriculum gives the students an opportunity to broaden their skills and perspective and encourages them to develop their talents as they take on the elements of the Learner Profile.
The Curriculum is divided in to 6 units of inquiry, which are taught in all years from KG to Year 6. The students each year build on the knowledge that they acquired in the previous year to inquire further into the units in the following years. KG1 and KG2 study only 4 units.
Reading, Writing and Maths are an integral part of the curriculum which can be taught through inquiry or as discrete units. Music, Art, Social Studies, Science, Personal Education and Health are all linked into the units and taught through the transdisciplinary themes. Information Technology is taught to all students, and is either linked directly to units of inquiry, or uses the inquiry unit as a basis for the lesson.
All Students study Arabic, classes are split into Arabic and non-Arabic speaking classes. There is also Islamic for our Muslim students from year 1 onwards. The syllabi for these classes all follow the required ministry guidelines.
